iPhone firmware 2.2.1 – Jailbreak & Unlock now!

iPhone 2.2.1 update firmware is a small bug fix release, it does not bring anything new to the table. We are still waiting for the real deal, the 2.3 update!

Anyway, for those who would like to update anyway to 2.2.1 and still be able to jailbreak and/or unlock, it is now possible!

Before you proceed, remember :

1. GOLDEN RULE: If you have a 3G iPhone running 2.2 firmware and you want to keep your ability to use yellowns0w (or the option to use it in the future) do NOT use QuickPwn, and do not use the official ipsw or the iTunes update process without using PwnageTool.
2. Yellowsn0w will NOT work with the baseband version (02.30.03) that is present in the recent 2.2.1 update – you will need to create a custom ipsw that will allow you to update safely without affecting the baseband.

I have an iphone from softbank in japan, it has no sim card.
Nothing seems to work to unlock it.
Any thoughts?
It is up to date in the firmware

Hi, Can somebody please tell me a way to unlock my iphone 3g with 2.2.1 firmware and 02.30 modem firmware. I m waiting for a way out for the past so many days. Thanks in Advance...

Hi Mike, I would suggest you check the baseband version of your iPhone, if it is version 02.30.03, you just can't unlock it yet as this version is not supported by yellowsnow. Sorry you'll have to wait.

Check it under Settings->General->About->Modem Firmware

For those with iPhone 2G (1st gen), the last baseband version is 04.05.04_G and has not changed since firmware 2.0.
