MacWorld 2008: Predictions iPod Touch - iPhone: Downgrade from 1.1.3
Jan 09

I recently bought this beautiful piece of hardware.
Gigabit, 802.11n, USB port for HD, stability, power, design…
But I quickly ran into a problem, the wifi connection was dropping after couple of hours.
Nothing I could do about it but rebooting the airport extreme.

Really annoying, as I bought this device specially for more stability and power with wifi.

Here is the solution : Disable IPv6 in the router config which is enabled by default !!
(Manual Setup -> Advanced -> IPv6 -> Local-link only)

Really it works! That’s the default setting on Time Capsule.

    Does it really work? I have the same problem and as far as i got from apple forums your ‘trick’ might not work as all the shaman dances possible. BTW, I bought the device at Best Buy and 30 days are already passed. Should I speak with BB or with apple about fixing the AX or taking it back?

    Val, all I can say is it worked for me. Since I applied that setting, no more connection drops. But now I have another bug, Leopard looses the internet connection sometimes, but the wifi remains up and running. When I test it from my iPhone, internet works, so probably a Leopard bug now. Grrrr.

    I think I will sell it and buy a Time Capsule. :-) Anyone interested in a Airport Extreme?

    Unfortunately you are experiencing the same issue and it is not Leopard’s bug. I’m praying for new firmware to fix this shitty problem.

    Someone in another forum suggested that this didnt work for them. But dropping your firmware down to 7.2 did work. Do do this you go to the summary page. And you can atually click on the firmware version and drop it down. I am trying that now.

    I’ve had this same exact problem. i haven’t tried disabling IPv6 yet, but i did drop the firmware down to 7.2. Now instead of the connection dropping every 4 hours it drops every 15 minutes on the dot. i’ll try the IPv6 trick next and let you guys know.

    i finally gave up trying to get this stupid thing to work, so i took it to the apple store and they replaced it. it works pefectly now.
